An active community advocate for more than a quarter of a century, CNHS continues to provide quality servicesby educating and empowering borrowers to make the best decision by guiding them through the process. Staff regularly collaborates with District Councils and local non-profit organizations to educate community members on home purchases and improving credit scores in order to purchase a house in the future.
In 2009, CNHS is working with various block clubs to “Adopt a Block” which involves caring for and watching any vacant houses. Mowing the lawn and shoveling the sidewalk improve the curb appeal of neighborhood and don’t signal that the house is empty. With a program such as this, safety issues are being addressed and the entire community feels they are part of the solution.
Every two years, CNHS takes a group of community volunteers to the Community Leadership Institute sponsored by NeighborWorks America. This year the group will be attending classes and workshops in Milwaukee, WI. In addition, the group will develop a community project that will be funded and implemented in the upcoming months. Past community projects led by community volunteers have included a Boulevard Garden Contest (see photos) and the organization of “Floor Clubs” in a high rise apartment complex.
