Down Payment Assistance
Down payment and closing cost assistance is often available for first time homeowners. Usually this is income specific or neighborhood specific. The funds can range from $500 to $10,000. The money is used for help with either the down payment on a house or with the closing costs of the mortgage. This usually takes the form of a 0% deferred mortgage.
Currently CNHS does not have any funds for this program. However many people’s places of employment may offer this as a benefit, their churches may offer funds, various city and county offices may offer assistance. The staff at CNHS keeps current with what’s available throughout the community and will advise families of this opportunity as appropriate.
“Buying a home is much like the birth of your first child; you know it’s going to happen, but aren’t sure what to expect. CNHS was a tremendous help and a wealth of knowledge during my relocation to Minnesota to be closer to my family. The staff kept my closing in place when our nightmare real estate agent was literally screaming that we only had 10-minutes to wire the money. They even found a $4,000 grant to help cover my down payment and closing costs. Thank you CNHS. You’re amazing!”
