Community NHS’ primary clients are households with incomes generally below the metropolitan median income and households whose credit histories may not afford them the opportunity to receive loans through conventional lenders. Community NHS is an affiliate of the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation (NRC) and a member of the national NeighborWorks® Network. Community NHS also participates in the NRC national initiative “Campaign for Homeownership.” In July 2001, CNHS was certified by the U.S. Department of the Treasury as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI). This designation means that CNHS met the Treasury's rigorous criteria as an accountable community development organization within low-income markets and make it eligible for further federal assistance. Since 1981, Community NHS has invested more than $21,200,000 in housing services and has assisted more than 8,500 families and individuals through direct loans, consultations, and technical assistance. Some highlights from 2005 include:
· CNHS directly invested over $5,000,000 into the community
· CNHS assisted 301 new home owners
· 622 families received counseling or training
· 134 households received post purchase assistance
· CNHS acquired, rehabbed and sold 3 homes to first time and/or low-income homebuyers
· CNHS started a reverse mortgage counseling program that assisted 27 people
2005 was a great year for CNHS! Thank you to all of our supporters who have made our work possible! |
