In February 2007, NeighborWorks America designated Community Neighborhood Housing Services a NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center. This recognition is based on years of exemplary work in pre-purchase and post-purchase education, portfolio performance, and home improvement and first mortgage loan origination.

NeighborWorks America announced a formalized NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center for Education and Counseling (NCHEC) during the Spring of 2007. The NCHEC recognizes the need for consistent counseling and education in the areas of pre-purchase home ownership education and counseling, post-purchase education and counseling, and foreclosure counseling. The NCHEC and the industry standards are the formalization of the NeighborWorks HomeOwnership Center model. CNHS has either met or surpassed the standards to be both an Adopter and Endorser of the National Standards, currently the only agency in Minnesota to achieve this distinction.
